I remember Bashir Gumael told to the world to leave Lebanon alone, not long after that he was killed. Ask your brother-in-law, I am sure he would tell you stories.

Apparently Iran and Syria weren't paying attention.

My major problem with Hizballah is their obvious intent of dragging the entire nation of Lebanon into their personal pissing match with Israel.

And all Israel can do is lash out collectively because they, rightly, also blame the Lebanese government (and people) for not having the will to bring Hizballah to task for being a pawn, and a proxy, of foreign powers like Iran and Syria.

Arm the military with the latest and greatest, force the government to take care of its people and I mean all people not just through sectarian lines.

Possibly, but the fear, IMO, is that giving them modern arms would create a situation where they fall into the hands of Hizballah, rather than being used to disarm that group.
