It is a very big challenge, and will take dedication and resolve and a clear given purpose and direction. but it is possible. perhaps the people deserve it. and perhaps we are capable of it.

Chinu - when people argue about expense and compare it to what we would do if we weren't in Afghanistan,

you really think anyone would change their vote on healthcare as a result? I don't.

would the children in South Los Angeles who don't leave their houses after school because it is too dangerous and who have police escorts to football games and helicopters flying overhead... suddenly have safer neighborhoods or even anything done to make their neighborhoods safer? I don't think so.

would the people who don't want to spend on green energy suddenly say, 'oh we have money now, let's green up'? I don't think so.

If people wanted to do something for south l.a., they would have done it 30 or 40 or 50 years ago. if they wanted to build a strong black rural south, they would have done it in the same time frame. if they wanted high speed rail, it would already be happening, and it will happen now if they want it, period.
