Jane, I don't necessaraily read "in" as "is."
I think there are elements of both 'overlap' and 'identity' in the words of Jesus.

When Jesus said "Before Abraham was born I AM." "I AM" is a direct reference to God. This was a very bold claim -- the Jews were also ready to stone Him for this! This wasn't simply a "dwells with"

That said I think Jesus used the term "Son of Man" most regularly to refer to Himself. The Incarnation is not without mystery, IMO.

I don't fully understand it. I know that Jesus was "man" enough that the temptations He suffered were very real and difficult for Him to endure -- otherwise the whole thing is meaningless, but at the same time if wasn't also the Son of God -- then how did God indentify with me?

Isiah used the term Immanuel (God with us) -- could be interpreted more figuratively I guess. Hard for me to.

Will study it more and then post something more coherent. Time for me to go. We are meeting in the afternoon in a few minutes.

Regards
Barry
