Somebody tell me why This makes MORE sense for ASND than other
moves they could make - other than saving Style some commissions <ggg>.

Sector,

its doable!

it makes them bigger!

IMO, COMS NEEDS ASND, but ASND does not need COMS.

Sector,

I'm confused, as usual. I'm talking about COMS taking out ASND, not vice-versa. That being the case, COMS calls should be irrelevant.

As for why the deal makes sense, I could post Maverick's post on the issue but you have already read it.

I usually don't speculate on merger possibilities, but it's interesting to consider this one. When ASND aquired CSCC, inferior overlapping products were discontinued. COMS does not have the goods to compete against CSCO in many of the higher segments of the market, while ASND does. With such a combination, they would be a fully end-to-end networking equip. vendor, just like CSCO -- but with superior technology in far more arenas than CSCO could claim. It would be an interesting proposition.

Sector, I agree - COMS and ASND merger would seem to diffuse the
already broadening focus of ASND/CSCC.

ASND/CSCC combined to generate a best of breed in the ATM and RAS
equipments. COMS is playing the commodity market and soon will
be eliminated when NICS are motherboard features (note: NiCS used
to be cards on UNIX boxes and now they are all integrated).

Why would ASND want to get togheter with COMS? COMS does not really
compliment ASND since NICS and hubs are more important in a growing
inTRAnet and not a growing inTERnet where people are largely dialing
in and hitting a remote access device.

Further, sales people who sell ASND equipment are not likely to be selling additional workstations and infrastructure for the inTERnet. Instead, sales poeple for ASND will sell bigger pipes to move the
data using ATM and more ports to facilitate remote access dial/xDSL.

Even if it were partially true, why is coms such a good merger
candidate?? anyone??
