I really cannot add to what Maverick already posted. You can discount his remarks if you want. But I think he described a COMS/ASND combination that would hit almost all of the markets now targeted by CSCO (with exceptions as he noted). That may have been all the reasoning ASND mgmt needed.

That said, I'm sure ASND mgmt has made, to COMS, precisely the points you are now making, albeit in the context of attempting to maximize ASND's going price. And at some juncture, if the price is not right, ASND will do exactly as you said: Grow on its own.

I agree with you that LU or NT would have been a great combination. However, LU seemingly was restrained by its 2-year pooling of interests prohibition. NT, I think, was restrained by its conservatism.
