Good find, yes i sort of recall things like that being said, this piece seems to indicate it was more to speed up development than to confiscate value built up by others ... you have to wonder though, because clearly it's a project of national importance and all sorts of excuses could be used

Since then we've had the credit crunch, fert prices backed off, nobody could get anything much going ... soils all through this getting more and more leached out, deprived of nutrient, you get a couple of dry days, little breeze comes along, poof half of Brasil becomes sediment in the Atlantic

Dialup - not any more ... discovered we were within two km as-the-wire-lies from a BC Tel switching station, and that this makes DSL available over twisted pair, absolute miracle how such a wonderful metal as copper can accomplish this, we must do all we can to set up more gold mines with copper credits
