Actually, according to an intelligence researcher I know, who is against smoking, tobacco raises intelligence briefly.

But the operative word is briefly.

I don't know the details but various things can give a temporary blip up in various functions. But there seems to always be an "after the party" effect which more than compensates for the transient "high".

Adrenaline for example and endorphins are normal physiological functions, best kept in reserve for particular situations. Continuous use of them is apparently not a long term good idea or nature would have arranged it.

People who fool their receptors with ingested chemicals are taking their chances and usually crash. Our resident bong-man seems to have been reduced to a harmless lifestyle of nihilism instead of doing anything good.
