Obama's the ultimate pragmatist...

dailykos.com

That is how I see him. He isn't an enemy. This isn't personal for him, it's political.

He's extremely intelligent, but I'm not sure if he really understands just how personal this issue is for many of the people who support him. He strikes me as someone who is very cerebral, not terribly emotional, and he may not "get" just how pissed off people are over this bill.

He thinks he can sell this [health care] bill to us. Maybe he even truly believes that he can fix things at a future date. I don't know, but right now, I think he's just hoping most Americans won't pay attention to the details of the bill. That we will simply accept this as a stepping-stone and move on.

I think he and other Democrats will be surprised to discover just how many of us won't move on. Not because we're stubborn. Not because we're spiteful. Not because we are "purity trolls". We won't move on because we can't afford to. For many of us HCR is a matter or life or death - literally. This issue won't go away. No matter how much certain people in the Democratic party wish it would.

I posted this on another thread, but thought you guys might find it useful as well...

Good article that compares the cost to families of doing nothing on Healthcare versus the bill the Senate is considering now. When it comes to metrics reporting on political issues, I've found this site to be very reliable and accurate in their assessments.
