<My dad went to Cass.

Best HS in the country at the time>

It was still the best Metro D school in the early 90's. I was a Navy recruiter there at the time. Cass grads had the best ASVAB scores of any high school in the Metro area. They did fall down on the Nuc (math and science) advanced placement test. I do not recall qualifying a single Cass grad as a Nuc.
Many of the diploma grads from the other high schools could not even qualify to get into the Navy. At the time an AFQT of 24 was the minimum score.
I found that those with GEDs (drop outs) typically scored much higher than grads.
