The irony of it is that so many on these threads do not recognize themselves as freeloaders on the environment. So many on these threads imagine themselves to be pillars of responsibility and freedom, when what they advocate is a form of freedom from responsibility. Freedom is only possible when people recognize their shared responsibilities as well as their individual responsibilities. The crowd around most of these threads beat the drum for individual responsibility -- and that is admirable. But they then hurl poisoned words at those who also recognize that individual responsibility is not enough -- individual responsibility without shared responsibility is freeloading.

the good thing is that when a crisis allegedly occurs, we can get government to quickly respond with whatever solution is recommended within hours, whether it be invading Iraq to get WMD, bailout money to save the economy and the world, or whatever .

sometimes it is mildly annoying that a week before a crisis, we have the president or other high gov't official reassuring us that there is no crisis and everything is fine, but some of these guys don't talk to each other so this is understandable. sometimes they don't pay attention to what is being told to the public, they are so focused on their personal agendas, it's hard to keep up with what's being spoon fed to our unbiased media.
