So.. if we permit the world to fall into chaos and open conflict because there's no longer a fear of US intervention or action, how's that going to assist our recovery?

It's easy to say that we need to isolate ourselves and "screw the world". We've done that numerous times in the past. If fact, some would suggest that's an "instinctive" American trait since so many people fled those other nations in order to escape their constant warfare and oppression. But reality doesn't permit us to be isolationist. We depend upon importing and exporting our goods and services. We need markets for our goods and services. And that requires stable economies in emerging markets that need our high-tech products and services.

We can't stand alone.. We're not that powerful anymore (nor should we be since that's how we got into this "Pax America"
situation in the first place where we've become the world's policeman.

We need allies Sarman. And we need those allies to be politically and economically strong. This isn't 1940 where conflicts could be isolated to specific geographical regions

Up to that point, I, somewhat, agree with you on the premise, however, we can take more of dialog approach rather than a military one. Like "speak softly but carry a big stick. So far we have been carrying a stick without talking.

This isn't 1940 where conflicts could be isolated to specific geographical regions. This is 2009 and all it takes is for a small group or country to gain possession of WMDs and use them against developed nations like our own in order to advance their position by disabling our economy.

A small nation/entity, possessing such weapons has the ability to inordinately dictate terms to the rest of the world, if only by way of extortion (NK, Iran,... etc). And if we permit other countries to start flinging around nukes and biological weapons, it's going to have GLOBAL CONSEQUENCES and we're going to wind up screwing ourselves because we did nothing to prevent it.

Again, I tell you we have nuke to blow the world 200 times over. No one would dare mess with us. As for NK and Iran, we could win them over, by treating them as equals when we talk to them. Also, I doubt that they stupid enough to be waving nukes when they know they can be easily nuked. It is nothing but political posturing.

I don't really believe your isolationist. In fact, I think you're being disingenuous.
You are correct I am not isolationist, however, it comes a time where we must look at ourselves and fix our problems first so we can help other. If we come to the point where we can't help ourselves, thus we can't help others.

And while you rail against providing support to Israel,
Of course, aren't you pissed off at the level of support that we give Israel? For G-d sakes, we are covering crimes against humanity for Israel. Doesn't that piss you off, know that the world look at us as saviors? Our name is mud because of our blind support to Israel.

you don't say the same thing about the Egyptians,
I am pissed off too at the Egyptians. I was sick to my stomach when the government slaughtered the pigs which was the livelihood of of the Coptic population. Also, they blocked the border between Gaza and Egypt during the Israeli massacre. That tells you that they are heartless bastards. Why do we support them? Let me tell you, the only Arab country that could have inflicted damage on Israel is Egypt, thus, support it, support its dictatorship and Israel is safe. Let me tell you Abdel Nasser is rolling in his grave.
