Your post is reminiscent of signing a petition for world peace while sitting at the Colosseum cheering on your favorite gladiators. Sure it would be nice if everyone took the high road, but it's a moot point when most of the crowd is screaming for blood and doing all they can to make the process gorier and gorier. As for you Star Wars analogies, I won't respond in kind with similar personal disparagement. But you have mistaken my general disgust with this process with your tacit approval for what you hope it will accomplish. I don't expect much of anything worthwhile to be accomplished in the US polity now. The debate is substandard, most of the politicians are shallow, vain and easily bought by their favorite special interests, and the moderate center is once again getting utterly turned off by the knee-deep sewage produced by the two zealous ideological factions hellbent on tearing each other apart. You could call that a dark side of sorts but not what you intended.
