need guidance from anyone: if there is a buyout and i have choice of taking stock or cash. if i choose stock. do i have to pay taxes on the appreciation or does that get deferred till i sell the stock? specifically royal gold has now offered to purchase roy and offered to pay either cash or stock or some combination of the two. if i can defer the gain i would like to.
