NYC still has high unemployment and has not recovered the jobs they
lost in the last recession...but a lot of "servant" like jobs have
been created that are probably off the books since families usually
need to have two wage earners and half of one of the wage earner's
salary goes to child care..not usually "au pairs" but island people..
still a great many homeless and it is scarey at times because it looks
like a lot of mentally ill people are walking the streets and one
wonders when one of them might snap "again"
chain stores have replaced family owned stored..restaurants go out
of business quickly...and the wealthy establishments etc look fantastically successful..the more expensive..the more it looks like
a bargain is going on there..
here I was writing to you and just saw that you posted me..funny..
also supposedly upstate New York is still severely depressed..

A lot of internet startup businesses have been created here and a lot
of young people with little experience and no fear are cleaning up..
with not many skills either but at least more skills than the next
person..
really weird a lot of people with cars shop for food in New Jersey
because food is so much more expensive in the city..
