Knowing this poster as I do I have to think there is some weird misunderstanding going on here. I do not know why the responses were disappointing to Lane- I mean we all agree on the theme- good ideas basically, but to want even handedness and comment on that- I'm not sure why that's suspect. But at this point I'm just disappointed and confused (not in any particular person, but in the way this played out. I have to think it would have been different if we'd been talking in person. But who knows?)

then you spend the rest of your time posting on threads filled with people who wouldn't adhere to those principles if you paid them, and actively mock civility in public discourse? I have had two threads bookmarked. One is utterly civil. The second has over the last few months taken on the very characteristics criticized in the piece I posted here. Sadly, it now reeks of "bad faith and intellectual laziness." I spend the majority of my time there challenging it. You seem to be suggesting that by participating in that way I am somehow condoning it, even contributing to it. That's seems bass-ackwards to me.
