Re: "... is welfare."

A SUBSIDY is a subsidy.

(And what is "welfare" but a subsidy? A continuous subsidy.)

Re: [Exercise of monopoly power BY DEFINITION means NO FREE MARKET.] "An enforced monopoly means no free market. Just being the only seller or buyer (monopoly or monopsony) does not."

Wrong.

Existence of a MONOPOLY means there is no free market in that area.

BY DEFINITION.

And, although Economics recognizes two different 'types' of monopoly ("natural monopolies" that emerge under their own steam, and "regulated monopolies"), a monopoly --- any monopoly --- still means 'no free market'.

Monopolies have Pricing Power.
