Could be... These kinds of things can certainly escalate.

However, it would seem the oil well in question is non-producing so it's hard to say whether the Iraqis will consider it worth going to war over.

But that said, Arabs don't like Persians, and vice-versa. And it could be an attempt to provoke a war in order to "unite" the Iranian public in a retaliatory war over what Saddam did in the 1980's. However, I don't think the Iranians would have much stomach for another such war, especially if it means the US would be involved.

Btw, what I find EVEN MORE INTERESTING was Obama's decision to launch strikes in Yemen. That showed some real balls, but I think it was done in cooperation with the Yemeni government.
