How about we try and understand why we end up killing each other so much before we try to "teach" others not to do the same?? They want to kill us because we don't believe like they do. Their interpretation of Islam (which is, unfortunately, pretty damn close to the Muhammad's original intent) is to wage ETERNAL JIHAD until the world has submitted to Allah. Ultimately, it's about SEX!! (amazingly enough). I don't need to understand why they want to conquer and subjugate me or my country. All I have to understand is that they intend to do it unless I act to stop them. We certainly didn't need to understand Hitler and his Nazi agenda to understand that he sought to conquer Europe and ultimately rule the world. He TOLD US exactly that. The one hope that exists is that there are moderate Muslims out there who do not subscribe to those militant interpretations and choose to peacefully live their lives in co-existence with other faiths. So..you want to understand? The you need to do some basic research Slarty. It's ALL OUT THERE FOR YOU TO READ.. All you have to do is pay attention.
