"When you're talking about the law, surely you'll agree that details matter?"

Details can matter. But the fact of the matter is you were trying to pretend that mandatory insurance was something that never happened before in this country. When it was pointed out that, in fact, you were blowing hot air. Again. You started spinning.

"Not only is it "not exact", but the entire concept is different."

Whether it is different or not isn't the issue. You were trying to pretend that it had never happened before. Per usual, you were FOS.

"Nobody is FORCED to drive a car"

Right. Let them eat cake. Outside of the larger cities in Texas, if you don't have a car, you can't hold a job, buying food is difficult, etc. You certainly aren't going to walk far during the summer months, and nothing is less than a few miles away. So yeah, technically speaking you don't need a car. But, you have to be a Tim to ignore reality and just subsist on what is technically true.
