My wife and I have square danced off and on for about 35 years. Every time we have to take lessons.

I really like square dancing as long as they don't get into the advanced dances where if you don't know the moves exactly you get messed up, and so do the other three couples in the square. Sometimes the highly skilled couples get annoyed. I'd prefer to stick to the basic moves because I do like to swing a lot of ladies.

Ladies who swing vigorously are the most fun to dance with and those who swing like a dishrag are no fun at all.

One year we decided to take Country Two Step lessons. It was supposedly a simple dance Quick Quick Slow Slow, but I couldn't make my feet go in the right pattern and my wife had trouble too. Finally, we looked at each other and realized we weren't having fun so we quit.

Actually, it would be best if callers would insist that beginners have an experienced partner, but they don't seem to do that.

The 50s were when square dancing was hot. All my folk's friends square danced every Saturday night.
