Joe, > How about Medicare, how has that been managed?

Pretty well, according to its believers. I think Alghieri in general had good experiences with Medicare and rotten experiences with private insurance.

Medicare for everyone. The real motivation behind this health care bill.

>>> One of the downfalls of socialism is that nobody gives a damn.

This is the overriding point that they seem to miss. You can get down into the details of various arguments, study the minutia, and in the end this is what it comes down to.

I talked to an individual over the weekend who has been on unemployment for several months. I asked whether he was having any luck finding a job. The answer? "I'm really not even looking. I get $400 a week from unemployment and I plan to stick with that as long as I can." I don't think he realized that might be two years under the current arrangement.

My daughter's PhD is in behavioral analysis. Her response when I mentioned this conversation was, "the government really ought to consult with a behavioral analyst - because anyone who has studied this subject recognizes they're never going to get people to work by doing this". I think she's right.

So you think that government can administer something (anything) cheaper than a private company? Especially if there is nothing at stake (profit) to keep costs under control?

I think it is not only possible, it is likely. We don't need to speculate...we have examples around the world and here at home.

How about Medicare, how has that been managed?

However well or poorly it has been managed does not preclude how well it could be managed. We need to agree first that health care is a right for everyone then work as a country to make sure that it is managed as efficiently as possible. The problem now is that the dems and reps don't even agree on this point.
