That's exactly my point. So why the big fight from the right?

Because the issue has been hijacked to be 100 of other things, rather than continuing progress on pollution reduction. It now is a vehicle for crushing regulation, taxation, transfer of wealth etc.

I, personally care for reduction of pollution that would accompany reduced used of fossil fuels. I oppose crushing regulation, taxation and transfers of wealth to achieve it.

The left is much more in love with the crushing regulation, taxation and transfer of wealth than in pollution reduction. If the leftists were sincere, they would be promoting nuclear energy. Their opposition to nuclear energy shows their lack of sincerity.

Without regulation, how do you see getting pollution reduced? Without reasonable taxation, how do you see new technology getting developed? As for the transfer of wealth, that's just conservative paranoia.

Joe, > BTW, my prediction that Obama lied about his support for nuclear energy came true, in case you are keeping score.

His support for nuclear energy was "conditional" and was worded specifically to give him an out.

Surprise surprise ...
