Closed Indonesian banks linked to Suharto's family

JAKARTA, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Sixteen Indonesian banks closed down by the government as part of an IMF-led reform package include some with direct links to
President Suharto's family, newspapers and banking sources said on Sunday.

The Jakarta Post newspaper said one of them, Bank Andromeda, was owned by Prajogo Pangestu, who controls timber firm Barito Pacific (BRPT.JK).

But banking sources said Bambang Trihatmodjo, Suharto's second son and an associate of Pangestu, also owns a stake in the bank.

The Post said another of the named banks, Bank Industri, was controlled by Hashim Djojohadikusumo, who also controls Bank Niaga (BNGA.JK), Bank Papan
Sejahtera (BNPS.JK) and Bank Pelita.

Hashim's brother is married to one of Suharto's daughters, while one of his sisters is is married to central bank governor Sudradjad Djiwandono. Banking analysts
said Suharto's daughter, Siti Hediati Prabowo, also owned a stake in Bank Industri.

Bank Jakarta, another of the banks closed down, is controlled by Suharto's half-brother Probosutedjo, the Jakarta Post said.
