lns,

why should a young person be forced to buy health insurance ??
When I was younger a woman who was the mother of a girl I dated was a big wig in MD's health insurance dept. She said no one under 30 should buy it.

There was a time when insurance companies priced their policies based on risk. Meaning a young person would pay, say 1/5 of premium of middle aged or older person. So it was cheap, and not a bad thing to have.

But in states like New York, everybody pays the same (state mandate), so young people pay some 5x of what they should be paying, and obviously, a rational decision for a young person is not to buy insurance.
