I spend time in both Russia and China -- to compare them makes zero sense to me. I have rarely if ever seen two countries with less in common than Russia and China.

As for the 'risks' -- all countries have risks and I would put the risks in the US significantly higher than in China. I would further suggest that China is politically viable and stable -- I don't think you could make a very strong case that either is true of the United States. What passes for democracy in the US is substantially dysfunctional and corrupt. We have, in effect, institutionalized and legalized corruption, so that people who engage in it can go to church on Sunday and be pillars of their communities.

Finally, as to basic finances, at least the Chinese have the common sense to save money every month and to spend less than they earn. That is something that provides a level of stability unknown in an economy so totally reliant on debt -- the United States.
