They respected Reagan and Bush Senior. No one respected Bush Junior. Although, I suppose it is fair to say that the bad actors out their feared him, and that I don't mind one bit.

However, here is something to keep in mind. A leader whose only real influence is through fear is far inferior to a leader who can get people to follow him and do what he asks because they are inspired by him. That is the real difference between Bush and Obama.

I'll tell you another thing. If Bush had gone into Afghanistan, kicked ass, killed Bin Laden in Tora Bora, and then left the country to rot with no nation building, and not bothered to change anything in Iraq, then we'd be a much richer and stronger country right now. Instead, we're mired in two ongoing wars, in debt up to our eyeballs, Bin Laden is still alive, and the world hates us. Bush f_ed up. No excuses will hide that fact.
