I have to say, Bru', that using that particular NYT column as an excuse for a rant about abortion and the "recreational sex" loving "secular left" is just a bit bizarre. Sure, the writer probably falls into the "secular left" category (she probably likes sex, too, and not just for purposes of procreation), but her column (read the whole thing here) was anything but political and it certainly didn't place the lives of vegetables above those of unborn children. Or even on par with them. It was a science column about the wonders of plant defenses, with a gratuitous jab at vegans. Nothing more. I can see vegans being upset by it, but the blogger you linked is grasping at straws.
