Hi Christine, I guess I need to clarify flounder gigging one more time. Flounder are born swimming upright like any normal fish until they are about an inch long, at which time they begin leaning to the right (like some of our posters here)more and more until at about 2 inches they are swimming on their side, and their right eye has migrated over to join the left eye. However they spend most of their life lying on the bottom trying to disguise themselves with their surroundings, in order to ambush an unsuspecting prey. Once in a while they come into shallow water, especially when they are migrating to the Gulf. I go out at night with an underwater light and walk and walk until I come upon one lying there, at which time I stick it with my 2 prong gig and chant an old Indian ceremonial phrase, "gotcha".
