We'll see. This economy is turning around fast. They have timed the stimulus to have legs all the way to the Nov'10 elections, which will keep Dems in power for the rest of Obama's first term. By the election year of 2012, the economy will be hitting on all cylinders, which will position him perfectly for a re-election.

If the best that the GOP can put forward is Palin, then there is no way the GOP wins in 2012. The Dems are a less effective party than the GOP. That I'll grant. However, the GOP isn't helping itself either. They have taken a sharp turn to the right over the last decade and that has lost them the center, which is critical to win a Presidential election.

The only way the election gets put in play is if a strong centrist candidate emerges, or unless the GOP puts forward a strong centrist candidate of their own. Not likely in either case.
