>> I believe we'll find that the Dems will retain majorities in both houses in 2010, which will be a good confirmation that the Dems are doing the will of the people.

A year ago the R. party had been left for dead. There were people on this very thread talking about it requiring YEARS for the Rs to come back, if ever.

While it does not appear likely as of today, it is entirely possible the Rs could gain majorities in BOTH houses.

There are at least 8 senate seats that are "toss-ups" right now. And this is BEFORE this god-awful legislation has been rammed down American's throats -- which more than 2/3 now oppose.

Keep in mind that the legislation has been HIDDEN, KEPT SECRET from the American people because the Ds know just how bad it is. Everything that has managed to ooze out since it became public has been negative. There is, quite simply, not going to be anything in this legislation that people DO like -- if there were, we'd have already seen it.

The Democrat senators who are in trouble have, to a person, voted for a massively unpopular bill after having the shit squeezed out of them by Reid who is, himself, in serious election trouble.

I think it is very likely to be a bloodbath 10 months from now.

The only promising news for the Ds is that the government is going to hire almost a million people for the census, which will likely help the unemployment rate come down some. Without that there would be little chance for these guys.

So Gore lost FL and the Office - and won a Nobel price :)

I didn't mention fascism, but I believe the dems will have a real hard time to retain the full majority in 2010.

Gore lost fla. the same way Franken lost Minn and thea Washington state woman lost there. The dems would have just recounted and recounted until they created the needed votes. The fascism party

>> However, years later, I read that an independent group of newspapers went in and recounted the votes in Florida and found that Gore actually won Florida.

This is absolutely untrue. The definitive study on the subject was conducted by the Miami Herald and showed precisely the opposite.

Incidentally, if you are concerned about fascism, we should look at what happened in Florida in 2000. What's interesting is that I voted for Bush Jr in 2000 and was elated that Gore lost. However, years later, I read that an independent group of newspapers went in and recounted the votes in Florida and found that Gore actually won Florida. However, the courts didn't allow the counting to be completed. So Gore actually won Florida and he won the countrywide popular vote. Bush outspent Gore 5 to 1 on lawyers and had the favor of the court, so he overturned the popular vote to win the election. So if you are concerned about fascism, look no further than the GOP.

I think if you research this you will find you are mistaken....Gore did not want all the votes counted.....

There was a consortium of newspapers that paid to have the votes in Florida recounted after the 2000 election.

They ignored the thousands of military votes Gore disenfranchised. They couldn't count the roughly 50,000 votes (which tend to be skewed more conservatively) from the Central time zone that stayed home after Voters News Service called Florida before the polls closed. Over 6,500 ineligible felons voted.

Even with everything skewed Gore's way the news media's best possible recount resulted in President Bush winning in Florida.

It appears that partisans who want to cling to their recycled sandals and tie dyed shirts may never acknowledge this.

You may wish to read this article which covers the media consortium recount that finally demonstrated the winner according to the votes:
