Jim, it will be different for different people. vaso constriction is an inflammatory response. the good news is that diet often plays a *huge* role in whether you body generates inflammation or not.

an anti-inflammatory diet is real. dr sears is on the cutting edge (zone diet creator), but harvard medical schools' joslin diabetes center is on board, too.

there is a wealth of information at drsears.com and zonediet.com (lots of cheesy advertising at zonediet.com, but lots of good information if you just ignore the cheesy advertising).

check your tg/hdl ratio - triglycerides and hdl cholesterol should be on your blood screening summary.

a ratio of 1 is pretty close to ideal. i'm in my mid 40s and and i'm less than 0.9. most diabetics will be in the 4 range. 2 is not so bad, but not so good. 3 is a warning sign of bad things to come. a 7 means you are dramatically more at risk of a heart attack than a sedentary smoker - even if you don't smoke.
