The Swiss Constitution states that every Swiss male is obliged to do military service.

The US has forced open a lot of their 'neutrality' recently.

Their popular vote against the construction of additional minarets was more a reaction against the current course of their administration that against the very case voted over.

Like "enough is enough", back to our core values.

It's amazing how cautious the politicians get when they know, that a popular vote can get them kicked out in no time at all if they do stupid things.

We need more than that rather than several layers of padding between those leaders and the citizens.

Mindmeld, > We could use a period of neutrality in this country, so we can nation build here at home for awhile, pay down our debt, and rebuild the foundations of our country and our economy.

You mean like all the other "periods of neutrality" in the history of America, including FDR and the Great Depression?

The Swiss have achieved peace through strength. Not through diplomacy or international agreements. They're not even a part of NATO.

Of course, being tiny, mountainous and isolated with no important natural resources helps.
