Just as much as the Germans loved Carter and now love your Obama, they hated the guts of Reagan and his 'extremely dangerous Cowboy politics'. I understand. With Reagan, there was a lot to hate. Whatever good - or bad - Reagan did has been totally suppressed, brushed under the rug - and/or credited to others. I wish the bad had not been so suppressed. It needs to see more of the light of day. It's not that they are unthankful SOBs, it's just that they truly don't understand, and when patiently being explained, that they then refuse to understand. Its why I like Germans. They are much smater than wingers. ;-)
