Economy on Air Canada or Westjet is superior to American, Delta and United, for the same price.
You get personal seat-back entertainment from gate-to-gate in every seat. Not sure if this has changed in the past week though. I will find out tomorrow. :-)

N.A. business class is still a rip-off but you do get real live food on both CDN airlines, not just a "snack box" containing a bag of chips, cookies and a vitamin pill.
I was sooooo disappointed with United business class.

Intercontinental business on Air Canada is sweet!
I miss it since moving from the Middle East to the GOM this past summer.

OT ... >>>Do they even have flight attendants younger than 50 in business class?<<<

You can thank the Unions for that. Seniority gets you the best jobs no matter what you look like or how old / ugly / miserable you are.

My favorite trick ... I book a cheap fair and then plead with the gate staff (NOT at the check in counter) for an upgrade. I usually get it as I am a frequent flyer (them cards work) either for free or maybe some small upgrade charge. Failing that there is still the Purser ...

And yes, Singapore Airline is great but so is Quantas and Swiss Air. Lufthansa on long haul flights in business class is also quite good. I try to avoid US / CAN airlines whenever I can except for short hauls.

All kinds of little tricks frequent flyers know or should know. The once every so often flyer gets exactly what he pays for.

Most affluent people I know fly chartered jets from business airports. If your family and friends fill all the seats, the cost per passenger is usually less costly than first class commercial tickets.

The plane departs as soon as you arrive without any security screening and you typically park your car inside the aircraft hanger for the duration of your trip. Your bags don't get lost, you shave hours off your travel time, and you end up far less harried.

Commercial air travel has become the modern bus. It's worth paying for premium coach with additional legroom and perks, but upgrades beyond that are best spent on private air transport, unless you have too few passengers to make it economical.

When was the last time a young, polite "cute" lady put slippers on your feet at American while refilling your drink?

you can't blame the airlines for this. they would be sued so many different ways: ageist, looksist, sexist, racist, shapeist (shapeism against fat peeples).

blame it on puritanical and litigious American culture.

On my first trip to Japan, I flew over on an American airline, don't recall who. I was allowed 2 beers and had to pay 5 bucks each. I was cut off. Sheesh! You know how long a flight it is from here to Japan? 2 beers?

On my second trip, I caught a Japanese flight out of O'Hare. WOW! What a difference. Free beer, all I wanted. Free wine and champagne. (Which I didn't drink.) They even brought around baskets of Hagan Daas ice cream. The Missus ate my ice cream. I drank her beer! That flight was a joy! Coming and going.

Went to Ireland this year. Booked an Irish airline out of Amsterdam, a Dutch flight from here. No more American flights over seas for me.

Oh no! They were as bad as the American airlines. And some knucklehead lost our luggage in Amsterdam. Thankfully, we brought extra clothes and things on board with us. Our luggage finally caught up with us the next day.

The Dutch airline from here to Amsterdam? Again, 2 beers, 5 bucks each, only they were 6 oz cans on Heinekin. 6 oz! Limit 2. The Missus thought they were cute little cans. Cute my ...... . Hrmmmmph!

I might have to try to sneak some beer on board next time.
