I have to laugh....the more I find out about Flt 253, the more it sounds a little like the theater of the absurd.

First, its looking like the Dutch have become very lax in their surveillance; that the Nigerian did not show a passport in Amsterdam. Apparently, he arrived at the airport with a rich guy and the rich guy finagled a place on the plane for the Nigerian. One American said that in Amsterdam, they never asked people to take off their shoes. Another American noted that she left a water bottle in her purse that got scanned but either was never discovered or was not stopped.....something that's not likely to happen in the States. I am not sure what's up with the Dutch....they used to be the most cautious after the Israelis when it came to security.

Secondly, the two people heading up al Qaida operations in Yemen were released by the Bush administration several years ago; that we've been punked by the Bush administration one more time. How come the wingers have not mentioned that little faux pas?

Thirdly, there are only two things that might have discovered the explosive on the guy's body. There is a thing called a wand....that you wave over someone's body.....but its not foolproof and it would take an hour or more to go through the population found on a jumbo jet....hardly practical. The other is a scanning machine which shows a person's body as if they were nude. Now can you imagine the evangelical wingers allowing their bodies to be displayed in the nude at the airport? Yes, not in this lifetime was my reaction as well.

I think we are caught between a rock and a hard place. Maybe we should concede now and give them Arkansas.
