Why do you believe the Popes already way back decided to hire Swiss soldiers only for their guard? because the Swiss always were the best of BEST fighters when they had to fight. In recent years they haven't had to fight too much though. Not since during the Nazi times opened their banks for incoming money from the whole world and at the same time introduced total bank secrecy for same customers. Taro
