Bill, that's too simplistic and I think you know that. The reality is that the Swiss have the combination of a homogeneous society plus a high standard of living.

Conversely, I don't believe gun ownership is the reason for our country's high murder rate. We have cities with slumlike conditions. The murder rates are higher in those cities. Correlation? Poverty and desperation seem to lead people to extreme actions. If they didn't have a gun, they'd do it with some other tool.

I was born in Texas and I'm a big believer in gun ownership, but I've always wondered why it is necessary for your average joe to have a machine gun. That seems unnecessary to me. I'd bet if we looked at who owns machine guns, more often than not, we'd find those owners have some kind of criminal past or present.
