And how did he get to the US in the first place without a passport? Does one have to show a passport on leaving an EU country, and does one have to go through any passport or other screening again when he/she actually gets to their US destination? He would have to show passport and boarding pass in the Amsterdam airport at the gate for the plane departure. The gates all have little separate waiting areas where the people inside have shown their identification and are waiting for boarding to be called. And reading some of the articles it look like he originated his flight in Nigeria, not the UAE, and flew KLM from Nigeria to Amsterdam. He should have shown a passport there (in Lagos) and also in the Amsterdam airport at the gate for the NW Detroit bound departure.
