John, we have a standard broadband cable internet connection and the Netflix streaming service is free. We didn't have to add or change anything. However, there's a relatively small inventory of movies available for streaming. We order the DVDs through the mail, mostly. But it's not because of any technical problems with the streaming video. We just watch a lot of films that are not yet available for streaming.

I'd recommend that you go to this site and see what kind of performance you are getting. Do it several times by hitting the back button and look for a median. Mine came back at 1710. You can then call the DVD mfg and/or Netflix and they should be able to let you know if that is adequate for their service.

You might want to also check it at peak hours (Saturday evening around 6-7 pm). This will give you a sense of what the bandwidth is at the worst case.
