Al, I remember when Bush called for the surge in Iraq. At the time, it was a very unpopular move. Most people were of the opinion that the surge would not work, that Iraq was a war we could not win, and that it we would be better off just pulling out.

We have a representative democracy for a reason. If our leaders simply governed via polls, nothing would ever get done. Though some might call that a good thing ...
