The NPR program, Radio Lab, interviewed a professor at the University of Nottingham who had dosed people with varying numbers of hookworms - from 10 to 500. He had received 50. The conclusion was that ten could be tolerated without ill-effect. 50 induced diarrhoea and discomfort (as the worms "chewed down").

Eggs are passed in the faeces, but don't they also reproduce in situ? If you start with ten, can you be sure they won't multiply within you? Mild allergies aren't enough for me to want to carry pet parasites, but if I had MS for instance, I'd give them serious consideration.
