GM was bailed out by the government. I call that being on the government dole. Beyond the direct bailout aspects you've also had the government largely directing its bankruptcy and to an extent its management, and influencing other aspects of the business. That seems to be the theme lately, the car industry, the financial industry, the medical insurance industry, the Obama administration seems to think government can run the economy better than anyone else.
