Dems Slam GOP Hypocrisy Over Detroit Terror BUSH'S SHOE BOMBER RESPONSE TOOK 6 DAYS; NO ONE COMPLAINED (NEWSER) – Congressional Republicans hammering President Obama for a "72-hour" delay in responding publicly to the Christmas Day attempted airline bombing seem to be forgetting something: It took President Bush six days to respond to a parallel situation, Politico reports. In December 2001, shoe bomber Richard Reid was foiled by passengers in an attempted attack that exposed gaping security deficiencies just months after 9/11—but neither party nor the media openly criticized Bush over his response time. The two situations were remarkably similar: Both attacks occurred around or on Christmas and both presidents were on vacation at the time. Bush finally referred to the shoe bomber during a press conference, but reporters were more concerned with his New Year's Eve plans. So enough, says a DNC rep, slamming the GOP attacks on Obama “hypocrisy”—the matter “demonstrates Republicans are playing politics with issues of national security and terrorism.”
