maybe there is a leaker in the FBI who is a patriot and has seen enough with the ft. hood bombing and is trying to warn the country, knowing full well that obama in his usual limp-dick way will do nothing to prevent further attacks?

Isn't there some sort of battle going on among the heads of all these agencies right now? - all jockeying to be top dog and get their fingers pointed first since they're all going to start accusing the other ones of being to blame.

FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, TSA, NSA, DOD, ATF, Border Patrol, National Guard, local cops, state cops, airport cops, state bureau of investigations, and a plethora of other alphabet agencies all in charge of supposedly protecting us.

You need another agency just to make sure the information each acquires gets distributed to the other ones.

What is Homeland Security supposed to be doing that the FBI and CIA and the others weren't doing before it was created? FBI is supposed to work here in America. The CIA is international. How does Homeland Security fit into those bureaucracies?

Systemic breakdown? Wow! Now there's a surprise. Who's supposed to send out all the trillion bits of data that they all collect everyday and who are they supposed to notify? The hourly employee at the airport that looks at your baggage as it goes through the x-ray machines?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Who gains most from a quick and early release of detailed information including multiple photos describing the exact nature of the misfire?

I think we can all answer that.

here is my completely non-cynical evaluation:

The reason we are leaking information is that we got lots of good intel from the pantybomber and that it is imperative that we not show our hand. So basically it is counter-intelligence.

We know more than we are letting on and we don't want the enemy to know it.

The FBI is sharing (false or partial) information because it has to give us time to thwart the next attack.

and no, I don't buy my non-cynical story either
