It is unclear how my Grandma got to Abu Dhabi. At that time for sure you needed an passport to get to France even (she changed planes from Lufthansa to Air France in Paris), to change Airplanes (which she managed as well) and to get into Abu Dhabi (which she could not without help).

Of course she needed to get a new passport made at the German consulate in Abu Dhabi in order to get back.

She told us that she just walked through (the fact that she was in her mid seventies mat this time might have helped too) and somebody who was supposed to check her might have been asleep at the switch. I think it could happen again but i think it's unlikely that a terrorist would be lucky enough to slip through.
