He laughed and said, "But what do your ears tell you?!" Nice line. I like it. And, as you might guess, we have tube amps, tube pre-amp, and a tube based headphone amp. I haven't checked the sound from the headphone amp against a comparable non tube, so I can't speak for whether it works. But the others were clearly warmer when listened to compared to nontube competitors. Well, to be accurate, several. I'm sure you know the drill. Dealers run a host of amps or pre-amps through their setups so you can compare sounds. However, in the pre-amp case, we were able to bring it home and try it out in our home conditions. Both of us have learned this over the past ten years of owning a decent set but we are, in now way, trained listeners. Just a couple enjoying our system. Oh, yes, we have, and you guessed it, done the same with LPs and turntables. Better sound.
