The reason the country is uneasy about the Obama administration's response to this attack is a distinct sense of not just incompetence but incomprehension.

Yes. Willful incomprehension.

One archetypal "on the job learning" moment by a President took place in 1979, under Jimmy Carter. After the Soviets attacked Afghanistan, good ol' Jimmy went on national TV and announced that this event "completely changed" his entire thinking about the Soviet Union.

That was a chin dropping moment. Remember thinking - "What the hell DID you think about the Soviets before this, and where have you been your entire life until now?"

Hope we don't have to pay a heavy price for our current Prez's enlightenment.

We need a President like Krauthammer. A person who has depth of keel, has major life experience, education and humanity. We understand Krauthammer when he talks and writes, and have the feeling that if he were President, he could, and WOULD, deal with any situation with competence and wisdom, AND in the interests of the United States and its citizens.

Krauthammer for President!

Obama may have declared the war over. Unfortunately, al-Qaeda has not.

This is all quite mad even in Obama's terms.

Any government can through laxity let someone slip through the cracks. But a government that refuses to admit that we are at war, indeed, refuses even to name the enemy -- jihadist is a word banished from the Obama lexicon -- turns laxity into a governing philosophy.
