<The truth is that neither the passengers NOR the crew are a part of the "system". >>

Both are VITAL parts of the system. They are the parts of the system that thwarted this last guy, Richard Reid under Bush, and kept the last plane from completing it's mission on 9/11. There are MANY other incidents worldwide to show how important involved citizens ARE.

To say they aren't part of our system of defense is idiotic, and doesn't recognize their contribution. I know, in that situation, you'll just wet your seat and let others deal with it, but still..

"You've totally jumped to conclusions."

Nope. I am just listening to the actual words she used instead of making up a narrative about what I wished she was saying. You should try that sometime.

"It just happened that the system failed MISERABLY BEFORE the point of failure"

No one has contested that.

"The truth is that neither the passengers NOR the crew are a part of the "system". "

That is nonsense. The fact of the matter is that no matter how well the rest of the system works, someone is going to slip through. So the system has got to include other things. Otherwise, you might as well stop international and national travel.
