That's why I emphasize democracy as a system of governmental accountability. It isn't perfect (as we've seen with the "election" of Hamas in Gaza), but it's the one political and social mechanism that forces government to focus on the needs of the people rather than manipulating them to serve the desires and aspirations of the political and religious elite.

Spiritual battles must be waged peacefully, and with the intent of creating tolerance and understanding between men and finding meaning in our lives.

It's truly sad that for the greater part of man's history, religion has been a tool used to divide men, rather than uniting them into a force for good.
