Back in my boating days, I thought the minimum unit of money was $500. I'm more into canoes and devices without much mechanical complexity.

Your note is my predicament in a nutshell. Thanks. It will help when I confront the dealer where the truck is being worked on. We've already replaced the expensive parts.

In my truck's case, the engine has a great reputation, which is why I was so surprised to have a failure underway.

It's the bolt-on crap causing all the grief. They seem to be designed to fail, but if they were designed robustly they would last just like the engine.
